It wasn't often that the young carnivore left the confines of Sinheim on his own. It wasn't that it was forbidden, it was just unusual for the colt to be out without his twin. They were two halves of a whole. But once the Helkaer foal had a taste of being an individual instead of the hive mind the two brothers shared, he discovered that he liked it. The first had been the summer camp that the Vigilum had held, and the second had been the strange trip to the graveyard that had left him unsettled. Thrace had convinced him that he was just hungry and the undead version of himself never did reappear, thankfully. But the curiosity had gotten the better of him.
That's why Theseus had woken before his siblings and had left his home this morning - curiosity. This time, Panic tagged along with him. Both equine and canine had been hitting their growth spurts lately - still spindly and not quite full grown but starting to get taller and fill out. They were still hunting small game together, but it was becoming far too easy these days. The wolf was much bigger and heavily muscled, while still remaining swift and silent on his feet. The colt was cunning and ruthless, drive by his hunger. The two made a formidable pair while they were on the hunt. They trusted each other the same way Theseus trusted his brother - unconditionally. While Panic had been suspicious when the cream and white colt during those strange moments in the witching hour, things had seemingly returned to normal. After things had started to feel like they truly ere a bad dream, it seemed a good time as any for him to return to the clearing and see if there was any evidence he could provide to his brother that he wasn't crazy.
Their walk was uneventful, save for a quick meal of a burrowed fox. It had put up enough of a fight that the pair received small wounds, but the blood the covered their muzzles made it clear who came out victorious. Neither had bothered to try and clean up. Why would they? Theseus never tried to hide his unusual diet from anyone. He never saw a need to. If anything, most equines he met didn't seem to believe him anyway. A child's imagination. If only they knew there was a predator in their midst.
The pair moved carefully between the carved stones as the run continued to rise. The early morning mist had already disappeared, making it easier for the colt to search for that clearing. He moved with a sense of urgency, multicolored eyes scanning the sparse foliage for any signs of blood or hoof prints. He was disheartened when he saw nothing, especially as he came to a halt among the ruins and trees. It should be here. Was it really just a dream?
