Regina had lost. She’d wandered into the Freelands, encountered a Helkaer, and fought instead of ran…and lost. And as she’d lost, she’d become a prisoner of the Helkaer mare, imprisoned within the corner of the Outlands known as Sinheim. It was a terrible place. Everything seemed poisonous or inedible, and the inhabitants of the land were equally unpleasant. Regina didn’t know how long she would be held a prisoner for. Harlan was clearly having fun doing whatever it was Helkaer mares did to their prisoners…nothing good. Regina had lost weight, her once bright gold cream champagne coat dulling along with her spirit. Only one thing kept her strong – she had to stay alive for the sake of her only living child, Atakan, who was in Rain Forest Beach or, she hoped, had gone looking for that new friend she’d made the other day, Adora. Atakan had seemed to get along great with Adora, the new lead of Sunset Shores, and Regina hoped Adora would not mind if Atakan came calling for help…for help was so direly needed.
The Light mare was passing another listless day in the Outlands, trying not find water and eat non-poisonous plants. She knew there was a constant watch on her, as there was on all prisoners, and therefore knew better than to try and escape. She’d have to fight her way out, or be released, or be excessively sneaky…Regina was not unintelligent, and the more time she spent here, the more her confidence increased in finding a hole through which to escape in the guard patrols. She had a son to return to, and a mate to find. Longing for Solovey filled her heart…she had no idea if he was still alive, or dead, or what had happened to him. She knew that had he joined Utopia, he would have come for her, and told her of his passing, and maybe brought their daughter with him…but he had not, and Regina had not met her stillborn daughter, and she felt the only living piece of him left was their son.
Turquoise eyes blearily focused on the ground in front of her hooves, Regina plod along, trying to avoid any snakes that sunbathed on this lifeless patch of desert and rock which this Helkaer mare apparently called home. How could anyone live here? Regina felt there was barely any water and barely any life. Who would choose to live like this? Truly only a monster would find this hospitable…
