the helkaer

The Helkaer are a Brotherhood of dark-minded equines who believe in a survival of the fittest mentality. They are trained in the arts of stealth, thievery, and murder, and thrive on causing chaos in Wild Equines.

Gift of Fire
The Helkaer have been granted the gift of fire by the River Discord. They are the only living equines who possess this power. Upon joining the Helkaer, the equine joining must perform a ritual where they are branded and granted the power in the presence of the pools that are the source of this power. This brand ties them to the power and will disappear if they leave the group, therefore also removing their ability to utilize the fire. In order to utilize the power, the individual must direct their thoughts towards the pool of Discord to light a fire. The Helkaer may choose where the fire starts, but afterward, they have no control of it.

The severity of damage caused by the power of fire will be determined by a random number generated from 1 to 10 - 1 being "the fire fizzles out" and 10 being "complete destruction." Upon calling the power of fire, the Helkaer member will tag a staff member, who will draw this number to determine the damage. Herds may further reduce this damage by creating an alliance with Utopia or The Underworld, in which case the number will be from 1 to 5 so the worst damage is reduced to "moderate." In order to create an alliance that adjusts the rolls, herds must complete an IC thread with either The Underworld or Utopia. When a roll is made, the herd must post a link to the already completed thread in order to benefit from the reduced roll. These alliances do not transfer if the herd comes under new leadership. The Helkaer must also have a completed IC thread discussing alliances with Utopia or The Underworld in order to gain this ability.

Another method to reduce damage for herds attacked with this gift is to ask The Underworld or Utopia for help once it has happened. To do this, a herd member must have an IC thread with a member of Utopia/The Underworld asking for help with the damage being done to their herd. This may help reduce the total damage done, but not completely spare the herd.

Stealing & Taxing
The Helkaer engage in a variety of war tactics, including stealing and taxing. The Helkaer receive one free automatic steal every three months and will use it to their advantage any way that they can.

The Helkaer also have the power to put lands in the allianced kingdoms under a tax. To accomplish this, they will challenge the herd leader to a challenge. Should they win, they may do whatever they wish for the land. They may ask for herd members, children, assistance in challenges, or information. In order to remove the tax, one must challenge the Helkaer to a battle and win. The land may be released from the tax whenever the Helkaer member wishes.

Animal Companions
After settling in the Outlands, the Helkaer made peace with the wolf packs that populated the area until an allyship emerged. Wolves are often seen patrolling Helkaer territories and will often come with Helkaer members on raids.

Assignments
The Helkaer operate with assignments that can be assigned by the Helkaer Commander or a mission proposed by a client. The more assignments that are completed, the more prestige a member receives along with the potential to move up in the ranks. Completing assignments will also earn WE points.

Expectations
Survival of the Fittest. This is the first and foremost rule of the Brotherhood - that only the strong will survive. Anyone who is too weak to survive will perish at the hands of the strong. Anyone who cannot abide by this rule will be cast aside.

Loyalty. Members of the Brotherhood are loyal to each other above all else. Any conflicts from within the Brotherhood will be dealt with swiftly. All herd members underneath the Brotherhood must also serve the Brotherhood and contribute to the cause. Any herd member in violation of this rule will be dealt with by their herd leader. If any member of the Helkaer is found to be committing treason by giving out intel, betraying their fellow members, or doing any other thing to endanger the Brotherhood, punishments will be swift and severe and may include beatings, suspension, loss of herd members, demotion, and/or complete expulsion from the order.

Dominance. The Brotherhood pursues the ultimate goal of domination of Wild Equines and will terrorize any herd, alliance, or group as they see fit. The only exception to this is if the group or individual in question has an alliance with the Brotherhood.

Challenging the Commander
If a Helkaer member feels that the Commander is not keeping up with their duties, then they may challenge the Commander for their position. However, there must be a valid reason for this. Reasons include: lack of activity, lack of participation in Helkaer events, lack of opportunity, or betrayal of the Helkaer. This is not a battle challenge and will be put up to a vote between the roleplayers of the Helkaer.

The process goes as follows: the challenge is made to the Commander by one of the Helkaer. The group is called OOC to make a vote on whether they think a challenge for leadership of the group is justified. The group and the Commander have one week to reply to this challenge.

If the leader of the group does not respond in this time, the result of the challenge will be decided based on the vote of the group - either the challenge is justified and the position of power can be changed, or the challenge is not justified, and the challenge is denied.

If the leader of the group does respond to the challenge - they will see the essential "accusations" being made. Again, what happens here is based on the vote of the group. If the challenge is not justified, then the position of power is not challenged for. If the challenge is deemed justified, then the leader will be put on trial where they have to prove their worth as a leader.

If the group itself is not capable of managing the matter, then voting on whether or not the challenge is justifiable will go to the admins of the site.

There is no chance that this position can be awarded automatically, such as people failing to respond and the challenger winning by default. It has to go to a vote, preferably done by the group members themselves, but otherwise done by the admins.
