characters & Breeding
Creating Your Character
You must wait for your character to be accepted by a staff member before you start roleplaying with them. The exception is the Character Development board, which is meant to help you if you are having problems developing your character.
All character applications are created and submitted in the Take A Breath board using the form provided. You are allowed to alter this form so long as the information is the same and you have filled in all the criteria. Both living and Afterlife characters are joined this way, though each new Afterlife character application will be given 20,000 points.
Design Guidelines
As a semi-realistic site, we only allow natural horse designs for the living and have separate guidelines for those in the Afterlife (see below). We do have a variety of items in the WE Points Store that will allow you to have Odd Markings, Paint, Color Changing Eyes, and Man-made Jewelry, among other things. If you are unsure about your character's design, please feel free to contact the staff team!
Appearances. Characters may not have abnormal colors or features (such as blue coats, fish tails, etc.). They must fall within the height and color guidelines for their breeds. Characters may be the extreme low or high height of any breed in their bloodline.
Breeds. Real world hybrids and cousins of horses are allowed. While they may normally be sterile, we allow them to be breedable. There are also rare or exctinct breeds of horse that we permit. There is a list of them in the breed height list. Rare/Extinct breeds require a store item to use, while normal hybrids do not.
Histories. Please note that your character's history is not required to be entwined with the site history. They may have been born in WE or came in from the outside world. We allow characters to enter the land of Wild Equines through a land bridge that connects WE to the rest of the world. There are no humans inside of WE, but your character may have encountered them in the outside world.
Afterlife Characters
Horses that are either joined deceased or die on site may become part of the Afterlife. They are allowed some fantasy design elements. These elements do not require a store item and can be used on any Afterlife character, regardless of what area they live in (excluding wings/horns). Please note that characters must remain equine as we do not allow species like hippocampus, hippogryphs, kirin, etc. Please refer to the Character Types page to learn more about having an Afterlife character.
» Ears may be unnaturally long, as long as they resemble an equine ear.
» Hooves can be from any other hooved species - such as cows, goats, or reindeer.
» Tails can be used from any land mammals, with the exception of feathered tails on those who already have feathered wings. There may be only one tail in place of the normal horse tail and they must not replace the hind legs.
» Only residents of Utopia or the Underworld may have a set of wings or a horn. The horn may be any real animal horn. The wings may only be one set on the back, the color of the horse's coat, and either feathered or bat-like.
Vampires and Carnivores
Once purchased from the store, your character can be a Vampire, a Cannibal, or both.
Vampire/Carnivore horses do not have any super powers. They do not have fangs nor sharp teeth. They are just like normal horses with the addition of a mental illness that makes them crave meat and/or blood. Vampires and Carnivores on Wild Equines are a mental illness, not a physical one. This means that these equines follow this lifestyle because they are influenced to do so from chemicals in their brains. Due to this, these illnesses cannot be passed through bites and other physical means. However, as this is a mental illness, it is possible for sufferers of this illness to pass it on to their children if another vampire/carnivore item is purchased. Vampires do not suck the blood from their victims, but instead they lap it up like water. Carnivores, as their name suggests, may eat any kind of meat, including other animals and other horses.
When playing a Vampire or Carnivore character, your character will also experience side effects from consuming blood and/or meat. Such side effects can include:
» Terrible stomachaches.
» Persistent migraines.
» Nausea.
» Anorexia.
» Muscle cramps.
» Severe fatigue.
» Fainting.
» Seizures.
» Memory loss/Amnesia.
» Visual or Auditory Hallucinations.
» Anxiety.
» Depression.
» Psychotic Episodes.
Joining Pregnant Mares and Foals Under 6 Months Old
If you are joining with a pregnant mare, you must also create a bio for the foal and have it accepted, even if you are not playing the foal at the time. If you are joining with a foal under 6 months, then you must either join the mother with the foal, or have a nursing mother lined up for the foal. You do not need to include a personality for foals that are under 6 months old (including unborn foals).
Animal Companions
Your character is allowed to have one animal companion. These include animals like birds, wolves, and foxes. The companion must be smaller than your horse. The companion can only speak with your horse and may not be roleplayed.
Character Death
Characters who die or are killed off IC or OOC and posted in the Cemetery board cannot come back to life unless they are reincarnated through the Afterlife. Please see the Afterlife section for more information on reincarnation. If you would like to take a break from playing a certain character, you are free to "freeze" them and post them in the Frozen board under the Cemetery board. You are free to bring these characters back as you like.
12 Breedings Per Year
Each member may only have 12 breedings throughout the year unless they have purchased additional breeding slots from the store. We keep track of breedings in the Breeding Thread in Tulor Woods.
Requirements For Breeding
A horse must be at least two years old to breed. In order to have a foal, roleplayers must thread the two characters together and post at least twice each. Donor breedings are allowed but must be purchased through the WE Points Store.
Receiving Your Foal
When you would like to receive your foal, you must post the parents' stats in Tulor Woods using the form required. Each parent must post their own stats and a staff member will post your foal stats. Please do not post foal stats until the foals are ready to be made - this means that two posts have been made by each roleplayer in the IC thread or a donor breeding has been purchased from the store. You may roleplay your new foal as soon as you post their name using the form in the New Foal Names board.
Afterlife Breeding
Characters who are in the Afterlife are also allowed to breed and have foals. To read more about this, please read about the different Character Types in the Afterlife section.
