canons
Canon characters hold a specific position or rank within Wild Equines. There are five groups of canon characters:
- » The Royals
- » The Versai
- » The Vigilum
- » The Helkaer
- » The Afterlife
The Royals
The Royals consist of a King and a Queen who preside over each alliance kingdom - Light, Neutral, and Dark. The Light Royals reside in Rain Forest Beach, the Neutral Royals reside in Tremala Woods, and the Dark Royals reside in Lachlan Breck. They have the power to award lands, remove leads from lands, banish those from their alliance, tax lands, and to hold lands to certain activity requirements.
The Versai
The Versai consist of three members and reside in The Highlands. They are a group of Lights who are dedicated to purging the world of Wild Equines of darkness by any means necessary. Their methods include stealing, fighting, and a brutal cleansing ceremony to convert others to the Light alliance. They are lead by the High Priestess. They have been granted the gift of water by the River of Righteousness.
The Vigilum
The Vigilum consist of three members and reside on Mount Vigilum. They are the peacekeepers of Wild Equines, willing to intervene in any conflict before it escalates. They are free of bias and seek justice for anyone who has been wronged. They are also expert healers with in-depth herb knowledge that help the sick and injured. The Vigilum have been granted the gift of lie detection and may also take the pain of others to save them from death by the River of Justice.
The Helkaer
The Helkaer consist of three members and reside in The Outlands. They are a group of outlaws who reject the rule of The Royals and seek to dominate the rest of Wild Equines. They live by a survival of the fittest mentality and welcome any who follow the same mentality. Their methods of domination include stealing, taxing, and raiding. They are lead by the Commander. They have been granted the gift of fire by the River of Discord.
The Afterlife
The Afterlife consists of both Utopia and The Underworld. There are two leaders for each, referred to as the Lord and Lady of Utopia or the Underworld respectively. They are the most powerful of the Afterlife residents and have been granted this power from the river that emerges from the Unknowable Mist. They are able to read minds, possess others, control and manipulate the land, the weather, their appearances, and the appearances of their followers, among other things. They welcome residents of Asphodel into their domains after they have completed tasks and may banish those who disobey them back to Asphodel.
Each canon group has their own secret boards for meetings and information. For additional in-depth information on each of these groups, please click on the individual links.
Canon Apprentices
The Versai, the Vigilum, and the Helkaer, in addition to their members, will also take on one canon apprentice each. These positions function as a starting point for those who want to be involved in the group. Apprentices will have to fulfill certain requirements from the group and if they do so and a position becomes vacant, they will be the first chosen to fill it. Requirements may vary from group to group. Please read this thread for more details on how to get an apprentice.
Activity Is A Must
Canon characters have activity requirements as they are a huge part of the site. They are required to post at least once every 15 days at bare minimum. However, they can gain strikes if they post on the last 3 days of this time limit and the position can become open to challenges. This is kept track of through the Canon Activity Thread. Keeping the thread updated is the canon player's responsibility. The 15 days begins from the last time posted in the update thread with said character, whether or not the canon player has posted in the away board. If the canon player has outstanding circumstances and literally cannot get online to post, they must let a staff member know before hand, and it must be for a legitimate reason (ie. lack of internet, family matter, etc).
Restrictions
Each member is only allowed two canon positions at one time. This includes canons and canon apprentices. If you play a Versai, you cannot play a Helkaer and vice versa. If you play an Underworld leader, you cannot play a Utopia leader and vice versa. You may not play both positions for a specific canon, such as both the Dark King and Queen.
Canon character positions are awarded through the following methods:
- » Judged IC auditions
- » Challenging for a position
- » Inheriting as an heir or family member
- » Fulfilling requirements as a canon apprentice
Auditions
When there is an opening for canon positions, auditions will be held to fill the spot. You will have to fill out the form provided by the member who is running the auditions. These forms may vary between canon positions, depending on what is required of that specific position. If there is an eligible apprentice, they will be the first offered the open position before auditions are held. Work in progress (WIP) posts are not allowed in auditions. All posts must be completed auditions or they will be deleted.
Canon auditions are judged by staff members (with at least one admin involved) and the other canon holders in the group. For example, if there is a Helkaer audition, the other members who hold Helkaer canons will be asked to help judge the audition.
If someone gives up or loses their canon position they cannot apply in the next immediate audition for that position again. This is true of both regular canon positions and canon apprenticeship positions. If you lost a canon apprenticeship within the last 3 months, you are not allowed to audition for a full canon position.
Challenging For A Position
If a canon member has either three strikes or two strikes and a warning, they may be challenged. (If there is an open spot in the Versai/Helkaer/Vigilum, the spot must fill before challenges can happen.) In order to challenge, you must meet certain requirements. The character challenging for the spot must have been posted at least once every 15 days for the last 3 months straight. No newly made characters may challenge. Please read the detailed rules and information on challenges here.
Inheritance
If a canon character is killed off, they may only be replaced with a member of their family such as a child or sibling, and this may only be passed on to a character that is played by the same roleplayer who held the position in the first place. If the character is not family, the position must be put back up for audition. The only exception to this rule is if the canon player wishes to pass down the canon position to a family member that they want another person to play. If this is the case, the staff team will hold auditions for that character.
Apprenticeships
If a character has successfully gone through the apprenticeship auditions, they may be required to complete certain tasks before they can become a full fledged member. If one of the main canon spots open (of the Versai/Vigilum/Helkaer), the apprentices will be the first to be considered for the position. Please check in with each group leader to see requirements.
When playing a Versai, Vigilum, or Helkaer, the position will come with a brand and special powers. These powers are granted through a ritual performed at each groups' respective Elysian River. Only those who are already a member of the canon group and bear a brand can perform the ritual to induct new members. The ritual will consist of the current members chanting in an unknown language while the new member drinks from the pool. When complete, the new member will earn a brand and the ability to call upon the power at any time by directing their thoughts to the pool. Should a member ever leave the group, their brand and connection to the pool will disappear, leaving them unable to perform the ritual or call upon their powers.
For further information on the ritual, please see the History page and the group specific pages.
